The Genre

Science fiction is misunderstood.  Or, rather to say, there is a  certain sub-set of what's called science fiction that isn't.

Here's an example:

Imagine a transport full of life strange forms with odd, glowing trapezoid-shaped-devices that they continuously touch and rotate.

Ok, now let's transform that paragraph without the key referents:

Imagine a x full of y with z that they continuously touch and rotate.

And now the mundane version:

Imagine a bus full of people with smartphones that they continuously touch and rotate.

It's not science fiction.  Not even the first version is.  It's a way of stepping back on regular life just a little.
